Description
Family Charadriidae
A family of birds that includes the plovers, dotterels, and lapwings, about 64 to 66 species in all. They are small to medium-sized birds with compact bodies, short, thick necks and long, usually pointed , wings.

About 6 to 7 inches long, with a wingspan of 13.5 to 13.5 inches. Adults weigh about 1.4 ounces .
Habitat
Vegetation: coastal sand beaches and mudflats, freshwater lakes and ponds, alkaline lakes • Foraging Strata: Terrestrial • Center of Abundance: Lower tropical: lowlands, lower than 500 m.; tropics. • Sensitivity to Disturbancet: High
Typically found in the intertidal zone at the water's edge at a mean distance from sea level of 152 meters (500 feet).Standard Deviation = 524.160 based on 5,204 observations. Terrestrial altitude and ocean depth information for each observation from British Oceanographic Data Centre.
