Family Tetrarogidae

Distribution: Indo-west Pacific . Body compressed ; head usually with ridges and spines; usually two divergent opercular spines; gill membrane free from isthmus. These fishes are extremely venemous. Mainly marine , but Notesthes robusta of coastal eastern Australia is primarily a freshwater fish. Bottom-dwelling predators of crustaceans and fishes.The family Tetrarogidae belongs to the Class Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) and the Order Scorpaeniformes. It contains 11 genera and 35 species. It may be found in Marine, Brackish , and Freshwater environments and is primarily Marine. Members of this family are not used in the aquarium trade. The main mode of swimming of adult fish in this family is gymnotiform. Compared with other fish, the activity level of this family tends to be sluggish. Etymology of this family name : Tetrarogidae: Greek, tetra = four + Greek, rogos = wrinkled
