Physical Description

Size/Age/Growth

Males are commonly 60 cm (Fork Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 120 cm (Total Length).

Habitat

Inhabits coastal and oceanic waters associated with reefs[1]. Occasionally enters rivers . Juveniles may be encountered in estuaries [1], occasionally entering rivers and penetrating well inland [2]. Forms slow-moving schools in the passes or outside the reef during the day, dispersing at night feed [3].

Ecology: Caranx sexfasciatus adults are associated with coral reefs and are found in coastal and oceanic waters to depths of 146 m. Adults school in passes or the outer reef during the day, and disperse at night to feed . Juveniles school in estuaries and harbours. Individuals feed primarily upon fish and crustaceans.[4].
