Physical Description

Size/Age/Growth

Males are commonly 60 cm (Total Length) in length when caught/marketed, but may be as large as 101 cm (Fork Length).

Habitat

A pelagic[1] schooling species usually found in offshore reefs[2]. Juveniles are encountered along shores of sandy beaches, also over muddy bottoms [3]. May penetrate into brackish water and ascend rivers . May be found at depths of 0 to 140 meters. Usually found at depths of 0 to 20 meters.

Feeds on fishes , shrimps, and other invertebrates [4].

Behavior

Often approaches divers [2].

Sound types : toothy grunts and thumps. Sound organ: pharyngeal teeth and swim bladder.
