Adult Summer Female: Neck: Nape: chestnut wash Body: Underparts: whitish buff with faint streaks Upperparts: buff with brownish streaks.Adult Summer Male: Head : black and white Face : buffy yellow Neck: Collar : chestnut Body: Lower Belly: whitish Upper Belly: bold black Breast: bold black Upperparts: black, buff, and brown streaks Tail: white with blackish triangle Undertail Coverts: whitish.

About 5 to 6.5 inches long, with a wingspan of 10 to 10.75 inches. Adults weigh about 0.7 ounces .
